PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE:
'DEEP' COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS
Tourism's Four Pillars

Explore Asheville is charting a new course for the tourism community aligned with broader community goals. These efforts are being organized around four strategic pillars that we'll discuss with community leaders and partners in a series of four lunchtime webinars as this year's annual Tourism Summit.

Last week, we told you about our first panel, taking place May 10, with "homework" (viewing a presentation by thought leader Adam Sacks) to help set the stage for an engaging discussion. This week, take a look at what to expect for our second DEEP Community Conversation on May 12.

DEEP Community Conversation #2:
‘Encourage Safe & Responsible Travel’

What does it mean to Encourage Safe & Responsible Travel and how can that strategic imperative be carried out?

Join Explore Asheville for our second DEEP Community Conversation, May 12 from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m., for an engaging discussion with Amy Allison, ‎Director of the NC Outdoor Recreation Industry Office; Dawn Chavez, Executive Director of Asheville GreenWorks; Peyton O'Connor, Director of Buncombe County Parks & Recreation; and Buncombe County Commissioner Terri Wells. The panel will be moderated by Explore Asheville Deputy Director & VP of Marketing Marla Tambellini.

Setting the Stage:
Thought Leader Randy Durband, CEO
Global Sustainability Travel Council

Randy Durband

Here's a great way to get ready for DEEP Community Conversation #2 on May 12: View the insights and ideas of Randy Durband, CEO of the Global Sustainability Travel Council, the United Nations-supported non-governmental organization that establishes and manages global baseline standards for sustainability in travel and tourism. The GSTC criteria include guidelines for minimizing negative environmental, culture, and social impacts while maximizing travel and tourism as a force for good.

HEAR RANDY DURBAND'S INSPIRING REMARKS

TIP: Order lunch before joining in!

All four webinars will take place from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. on the dates listed, so here's an idea: Order lunch to go from your favorite AIR restaurant before tuning in for an enlightening discussion on the future of tourism in Asheville and Buncombe County. (And here's another tip: Use Kickback AVL and have your lunch delivered to you!)
