Measles Update + Business Checklist from
Buncombe County Public Health Officials

During a public health coordination call this week, Buncombe County Public Health officials shared updates on measles activity in the community and reminders for individuals and businesses. At this time, there is no community spread of measles in Buncombe County, with only three cases confirmed locally, all of which are linked to South Carolina.

While the risk in our community remains low, measles is highly contagious, and the growing outbreak nearby means businesses should stay prepared and informed. Key reminders for employers include:

  • Encourage employees to know their measles immunity status
  • Be aware of symptoms, which typically appear 1–2 weeks after exposure and may begin with high fever, cough, red watery eyes, followed by a rash
  • Reinforce stay-home-when-sick policies
  • Act quickly if exposure is suspected

Low-cost or free MMR vaccines and help finding immunization records are available through the Buncombe County Immunization Clinic (40 Coxe Avenue). For workplace concerns or potential exposures, contact One Buncombe at 828-250-6100. For additional information, including a symptom overview, immunity check tools, FAQs, and printable posters in multiple languages, click here.

Partners are also encouraged to click below to review the county’s checklist for businesses on preparing for and responding to measles in the workplace.

Help Guide the City's Urban Forest Master Plan
Share Your Values & Concerns Regarding the Urban Forest by March 27

The City of Asheville is inviting residents, nonprofit leaders, business owners, and community stakeholders to participate in a public engagement survey for the development of its first-ever Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP). The plan will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for the sustainable management, protection, and enhancement of Asheville's urban forest for decades to come.

Feedback from the public will help the City understand community priorities, values, and concerns regarding the urban forest, which will help guide future policy, resource allocation, and management strategies.

The five-minute survey is available online and will be open for submissions through March 27, 2026. An ongoing list of public presentations and engagement opportunities is provided on the project website. Visit ashevillenc.gov/trees for more information.
