Bad Drawings began on the sidewalks of downtown Asheville, North Carolina. Looking for an excuse to sit outside and enjoy the autumn weather, I picked up a Sharpie and a Canson XL Mix Media sketch pad and invited people to sit for a caricature asking, "Would you care for a Bad Drawing?" It was an instant success. I've been drawing on the streets of Asheville for more than five years and in bars and restaurants for late-night crowds. At last count, I've drawn more than 10,000 faces.

People often ask why I call them "bad" drawings. Bad Drawings are kind of like the drawings I did when I was kid—but as if I never got any better. Do you remember the stunningly bad drawings from the film Napoleon Dynamite? Napoleon spent three hours shading the upper lip of his crush. "It's probably the best drawing I've ever done," he says.

Bad Drawings is inspired by the very same ethos. They're so bad, they're good. Not just bad, but badass.
